I have been wanting a big sign for my kitchen. I love Joanna’s sign she has hung in her farmhouse kitchen from the show “Fixer Upper”. I’ve been looking to purchase one and the cost is so crazy. I went to a Vintage Market Sale in Overland Park with my friend Cindi and found really unusual signs for sale that were fairly reasonable. My friend found one that was just the kind of wood I liked but with the words “Hope”. She bought it. I found the words I wanted but not the wood. We walked around for awhile and I found this vendor that had really amazing signs made from metal as well as individual letters. I gathered the letters I wanted and got in line to pay. Ahead of me, there was a woman with a rusty rooster. I asked her where she found it. Raced over to pick one out and got back in line. While paying for my finds, my friend got my attention at a vendor behind me. She was holding up a piece of wood. It looked a little large but she said the vendor had other pieces as well. Collected my letters and the rooster and followed Cindi and the new vendor inside the booth. She had a really old “huge” door panel with a rough finish of blue paint on it. Loved it at first sight. Cindi suggested I lay out the letters and the rooster to see if they fit. They fit perfectly. Bought it and smiled all the way through the flea market to the car. Just what I wanted!!!!

I love going to flea markets and getting ideas then making them my own with my personal touch.

I just love it when a project comes together and it surpasses what I envisioned!!

It’s time for a summer door hanger. Looked on pinterest for ideas. I decided I didn’t want another floral wreath. Love, love, love flowers but wanted something summery and fun. I went to the garage and looked for some boards to create my door hanger. We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and have left over bead board. I just love this stuff. It’s thin and easy to work with. I hand sawed two pieces to the size I needed. Printed off the words “Welcome” and “Summer” in a font I liked. Stenciled the letters on the boards and painted them a pretty green. I thought the color was getting lost on the white board so I outlined them in black. I made holes in the boards and wired them together with leftover wire from another project. I had a cute wall hanging tin container that I hadn’t found a home for yet. It has a home now. I painted it white, put flowers in it and wired it to the boards. It still looked like it needed something. I had a wood butterfly left behind from when my granddaughter was crafting with me. It looked adorable on the hanger. Printed out a couple of birds and butterflies. Glued them on. Stuck flowers in the tin. Found a left over scrap of material for a bow and walah!

Since Easter has come and gone, I started looking at ideas on pinterest for a door hanger to celebrate Spring. My crafty friend, Cindi, has all the seasons covered so I went looking for ideas similar to her door hanger. I knew I wanted to represent flowers, watering and fun. So I brought out the items I wanted to work with.

The shutter from Easter, rain boots from Aldi’s, and a portion of an old hose that wouldn’t quit kinking. These were the three items I knew I would use. I continued to look around the house trying to come up with things that were Spring oriented. A painted watering can, fake flowers, and a material remnant that reminded me of Spring. After I fastened the things on the shutter with zip ties, I decided I needed a sign. I went looking in the garage for a piece of wood. It couldn’t be thick and heavy or it would weigh the shutter down. Finally, I found some left over pieces of bead board from remodeling our kitchen ceiling. I love using my husband’s saws but the one I wanted to use wasn’t out. So out came the hand saw. I found some aqua spray paint and letter stencils. Once it dried, I nailed it to the shutter. I really like the way it turned out.

Since this is my first post, I thought I would start it with why I want to start a blog. I have discovered I love looking at and following other bloggers that share my love of repurposing, crafting and refinishing.

I enjoy updating or repurposing things I have found at thrift stores or garage sales. My theme seems to be painting things white. I think the white paint makes things so clean and fresh. I’m sure I will eventually find a new color but right now, white it is.

Crafting has also become one of my favorite things to do. I can always find a reason to make something for one purpose or another.

Preserving a piece of furniture or decor, saves a small bit of history. The rich wood colors makes you think of the previous owners and how they used it.

Vintage things have so much history to them. They seem to talk to you. Old scales, furniture, vases, the list is endless.
